The game of cricket

Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played on a cricket field (see image, right) between two teams of eleven players each.[3][4] The field is usually oval in shape and the centre of the oval is marked by a rectangular pitch (see image, below). The pitch is a flat surface 3–4 metres (10–13 ft) wide, with very short grass that tends to be worn away as the game progresses.
The two sets of three stumps at either end of the pitch are called the wickets. The wicket at the batting end is called the strikers wicket, while the wicket at the bowling end is called the non-striker’s wicket. The wicket is guarded by a batsman who, with his bat, is able to defend the wicket and, if possible, score runs.

The game of cricket has been played for centuries and is a popular sport in many countries. The game is played with a bat and a ball and the object of the game is to score runs by hitting the ball and running between the wickets. The game is played on a large field with a pitch in the centre. The pitch is a flat surface 3–4 metres (10–13 ft) wide, with very short grass that tends to be worn away as the game progresses.

The game is split into innings, with each team taking turns to bat and bowl. The team that scores the most runs in their innings wins the game. The game is played between two teams of eleven players each and is usually played over a period of five days.
